Woodland Site Services Offered at Lockhart Garratt
At Lockhart and Garratt, we offer various woodland site services as per our client’s requirements. We develop, evaluate and promote efficient and safe equipment and work methods. We also provide information, advice, and specialist services on matters concerning forest operations.

Silviculture and Soil
This involves site assessment and soil classification, mixtures selection and tree species management, and continuous forestry cover.
Harvesting and Extraction
This includes the production of timber on large scale, including harvester/forwarder and motor manual, and winch system on different terrain. This service also involves continuous cover forestry.
Chemicals
We use pesticides to protect trees and control weed. We also cover pollution control and transport regulation, use, storage, and environmental safety guidelines.
Establishment
This involves:
- Drainage and ground preparation on restocking
- Establishing new planting sites in continuous forestry cover
- Covering machine and motor-manual operations like respacing, planting, weeding, and pre-commercial thinning
Small Woodlands and Biomass
This service includes protection, establishment, and the harvest of short rotation coppice and short rotation forestry crops that are single-stemmed.
It also involves harvesting small woodlands and terrain chipping using small-scale or farm-based equipment.
Forestry Equipment Standards
We participate in the development of international and British standards on:
- Pesticide applicators that are handheld
- Aerial/overhead pesticide application
- Safety in handling large forest machinery
Unmanned Aircraft
We use drones for aerial surveying and monitoring the woodlands for any damage.
Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment
Our assessment method follows the best practice guide in the industry and has been used as a reference to support our role as experts on numerous projects in both the public and private sectors.
We have the latest digital modelling terrain software, LSS Elite, enabling thorough analysis of the area allowing our team to include fly thoughts, cross-sections, and Zone of Theoretical Visibility assessments.
The CGI visualisations we provide are used to evaluate the progress of your developments and further support the planning of your application.
