For the 11th year running Lockhart Garratt have teamed up with Myerscough College (near Preston) to sponsor the ‘Top Student Award’ in the Arboriculture and Urban Forestry Masters Degree.
This year we were delighted to offer the award to David Hansford, a Senior Aboriculturalist based in Exeter.
“David has been a diligent and attentive student, showing good analytical abilities, exhibiting in his coursework very good interpretation of scientific work along with excellent communication skills. David’s MSc thesis analysed changes in the canopy cover of Torbay, eight years on from a ground-breaking study of that town’s urban forest. His thesis was highly detailed and examined the reasons behind canopy increases and canopy decreases that were found on various sites. Never was it more important for us to analyse our urban forests and to plan for their futures, so David chose an important topic for his final research year.
David has excelled throughout the course, achieving the highest overall grade for his year group (2018-19), for which the Lockhart Garratt Prize for Top MSc student is awarded. The teaching team wish him well in all his future endeavors”, comments Dr. Duncan Slater, course tutor for the MSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry.
John Lockhart, Chairman of Lockhart Garratt adds ” we have been supporting this award many years now, and we are honoured to be so closely involved with the college and their students. We look forward to continuing to support the education sector for many years to come”.
