The Importance of Forest Landscaping
Any areas with varied land use, farmland, degraded lands, and forests are considered a forest landscape. Forest landscaping involves restoring the landscape to improve ecological integrity and provide ecosystem functions to meet human needs and biological diversity.
Forest landscaping goes beyond merely planting trees and increasing forest cover. It entails landscape planning, woodland management, and soil and land restoration.
Forest landscaping isn’t a simple process – the team at Lockhart Garratt can certainly vouch for that. Our team of experienced environmental consultants have one primary aim – to deliver exceptional forestry and ecology design and planning.
Why is Forest Landscaping Important?
Global forest resource assessments state that between 1990 and 2015, southeast Asia lost over 11% of forest area. This resulted in a drastic socio-economic and environmental impact on the poorer communities. Forest loss and degradation lead to significant problems relating to food and livelihoods as well as affecting water sources and climate change.
Without carefully considered forest landscaping, landscapes are increasingly prone to disasters like heavy rainfall, floods, landslides, and natural fires.

Forest landscaping and restoration greatly reduce these issues by rebuilding and enhancing landscapes that have increased ecological and economic benefits. Forest landscaping can support climate change adaptions and enhance ecological values for the landscape and the local people.
Lockhart Garratt’s Forest Landscaping
Lockhart Garratt’s landscaping is one of England’s leading environment consultancies. The landscaping company has experience in arboriculture, forestry, landscaping planning, and design and woodland management.
Our team has a strong appreciation for diverse client bases and ecological planning. Lockhart Garratt has successfully designed community woodlands with soils stripped from areas intended for balancing lagoons.
We were involved in the process from an early point to recover a good standard of ground preparation, with the 60‐90cm transplants adjusting well to the site, reaching two metres high in the third year.
Lockhart Garratt’s also had success in nutritional soil development and restoration. We assisted in lab surveys and field analyses to offer recommendations to increase the nutritional content for multipurpose soil. Plants were presented to help anticipate weed control requirements with successful re-use of the soil that would be cost-effective in a landscaping scheme.
Have a question or wish to explore forestry landscaping further? Lockhart Garratt’s team of experienced and dedicated professionals is on hand to discuss any landscaping needs.
