The Great Barn, Aynho

On June 19th, we welcomed a large and diverse group of delegates to Lockhart Garratt’s inaugural Technical Conference, held in the idyllic surroundings of The Great Barn in Aynho on the Northamptonshire/Oxfordshire border.

The CPD conference was themed ‘Capturing Environmental Value’ and focused on how professionals can benefit from the opportunities afforded by the government’s 25 Year Environment Plan, the Agriculture Bill and the Environmental Nett Gain consultation.

The renewed focus on the environment at the forefront of this legislation means it has never been more important for professionals to be aware of what it will mean for their business in the coming years and how they can develop strategies to make the most of opportunities and minimise the impact of the inevitable challenges.

Merrick Denton-Thompson

The future of the countryside

On the day, landowners and professionals from the planning, development, architecture, education, housebuilding, project management and investment sectors enjoyed presentations from seven expert speakers, including Lockhart Garratt’s Chairman John Lockhart and a keynote address from Merrick Denton-Thompson, the past president of the Landscape Institute.  Merrick talked about ‘The future of the Countryside’ with a focus on how rural land management and environmental planning can co-exist in a mutually beneficial way.

Technical updates on the day were to-the-point, yet far-reaching, covering the areas of arboriculture, ecology, forestry and woodland management, landscape and green infrastructure and soils and land restoration.

Fantastic feedback

Following the event, attendees expressed extremely high levels of satisfaction with the conference, with an overwhelming majority rating areas including networking opportunities, quality of speakers and organisation as either excellent or good. Indeed, over 90% of attendees said they had connected with useful new contacts and would be interested in attending future Lockhart Garratt events and recommending them to others.

Comments received from delegates after the conference included:

I thoroughly enjoyed the event and am very impressed with Lockhart Garratt. I hope to speak/engage with Lockhart Garratt for woodland management.

Great event overall. Excellent value for money in terms of other CPD events on offer.

Very many thank for including me in the Conference this week. It was informative at the “Capturing Environmental Value” side but also interesting to better understand the full spectrum of your capabilities and also the influence that you have with the decision takers in Government and the ecological influencing groups.

Very enjoyable and informative. Good to meet other like-minded people. Will be keeping an eye out for future events.

The keynote speaker was a great start to the day and very thought-provoking.

Building on success

John Lockhart Presentation

Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback expressing an appetite for similar events in the future, we are planning to add more technical conferences to our regular roster of learning and networking events which include the perennially popular business breakfasts.

“We were delighted at the success of our very first Technical CPD Conference,” said John Lockhart. “It was a fantastic opportunity for professionals to listen to our technical experts and guest speakers in order to find out more about the current thinking and developments. It was also a great way for professionals to network with like-minded individuals in order to form useful working relationships.”
