On Tuesday 19th September 2017 members of the RFS Midlands Division will joined members of the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Division as guest of Baroness Jane Willoughby de Eresby at Grimsthorpe Castle Estate, near Bourne, Lincolnshire.

Since our last visit there in 2007, the Estate team have been hard at work and have compiled a very interesting programme for the day, which will run as follows:

09:30
  • Park in main Public Car Park, Grimsthorpe Estate, Bourne, Lincolnshire.
  • Postcode for users of sat-nav: PE10 0LY.
  • Meet in Coach House, tea and coffee served.
10:00
  • Welcome and briefing from Estate forester and team.
  • Morning visit to Norwoods (72.7ha) Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland with recent planting: review of recent felling, thinning and restocking programme.
12:30
  • Return to Coach House for lunch and convene AGM (copies of 2016 minutes, reports and accounts to be provided).
13:30
  • Close AGM and move to historic parkland for afternoon visit, reviewing its ongoing restoration as a setting for the 13th century castle, including SSSI and landscape conservation.
15:30
  • Return to Coach House for summary, further informal discussion and close.

There is good road access across the Estate; therefore, we will drive to the sites in as few vehicles as possible.  In case of soft ground conditions, please bring stout footwear.  A risk assessment will be available at registration, and the cap for the day will be £3 for members and £5 for each guest.

For biosecurity reasons please ensure that your car, boots and outdoor clothing come to site clean. Please also remove all mud and plant debris from clothing before leaving site.  Disinfectant spray will be supplied, for applying to boots at the start and end of the day.

To confirm your attendance at the Grimsthorpe visit, please email [email protected].  If there are any queries please do not hesitate to contact Rob Stockley on 01536 408840.  We very much hope that you will be able to join us for this fascinating insight into one of the region’s pre-eminent woodland estates, and look forward to seeing you on the day.
