As 2016 draws to a close we have a chance to look back and reflect upon the challenges and successes of the last 12 months.  We hope that this year has been good to you and we would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of our highlights of 2016.

Client Research

Following on from the successful implementation of our company business plan last year, we have been working hard to meet the aspirations set out in that plan and to improve and build upon our current working practices to ensure we provide the best possible service to our clients.  Key to this improvement was the client research, which took place between March and May.  An external agency was commissioned to undertake telephone interviews with a balanced selection of our clients to establish their current perceptions of Lockhart Garratt and opportunities for our continued improvement.

The results of the survey were extremely positive, with those interviewed speaking highly of the close and trusted relationships they have developed with our team, the expertise provided, our quality of service, our ‘can do’ attitude and the integrity we bring to projects, together with the promptness and honesty of communication.  The survey also highlighted areas for us to build on and improve and we look forward to developing these areas across the business to make a positive change.  We are extremely grateful to those of you who gave your time to provide such invaluable feedback and insight.

New Website Launch

In November we were delighted to launch our new company website.  One of the key themes of the client research highlighted the need to better showcase the full suite of services we provide.  With this in mind, we created a new website that would promote our wide range of client services and would enable users to access relevant information within two clicks.  We hope you enjoy it and please do not hesitate to let us have any feedback.

Company Events

Lockhart Garratt has both hosted, and been involved with, a number of events throughout 2016:

  • On 10th June we held a drinks reception to celebrate the launch of our larger office at Chipping Norton.
  • We have hosted two successful Business Breakfasts this year and were pleased to welcome both John McLarty of Strutt & Parker and Wyn Evans of Forty Shillings as key speakers.
  • On 9th September we were pleased to sponsor, and speak at, the University of Cambridge event at Madingley Hall to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
  • Our Speed Networking event took place on 16th September, hosted by our younger team members. This event provided a platform where young professionals and those new to the industry could meet and start to build invaluable working relationships for the future.
  • During November and December, we ran two Ecology Workshops. These workshops provided a technical update and outlined how potential issues should be approached and addressed through the planning process following a Biodiversity Planning Guideline document prepared by our ecology team.

We hope that you have had a chance to take part in some or all of the above and have enjoyed and benefitted from the discussions and contacts made through these events.  If you have yet to take part in an event, or if you are looking to plan ahead for the New Year, then please visit our website for the latest news on upcoming events.

Company Achievements

In addition to the commendable and well-deserved achievements of our team, we are also proud to announce a couple of company highlights throughout what has proved to be a highly positive year:

  • In March we were honoured to be named as one of Horticulture Week’s most influential landscape consultancies. As a relatively new service to the business this is great praise and we hope to continue to grow and expand our influence in the future.
  • 2016 has also seen Lockhart Garratt achieve ’Investors in People’ Bronze Level accreditation. As something set out in our Business Plan we are so proud of the efforts made by staff, in particular Alison Barrett, to help achieve this goal.  We are committed to supporting our team sustainably and are proud to have this recognised.  We now aspire to obtain the Silver Award over the next couple of years.

New Staff

This year we have seen the addition of three new staff members across the business, including:

  • Richard Fox – Senior Landscape Architect (Landscape and Green Infrastructure Team).
  • Claudia Caragioiu – Finance Assistant (Finance Team).
  • Sarah Thresher – Graduate Assistant (Ecology Team).

Sponsorship – Supporting Education

Over the past year we have been pleased to sponsor a number of education awards throughout the industry.  As a company, we believe that it is important to reward and recognise those new to the industry and to promote the environmental sector for the future.  Awards sponsored by Lockhart Garratt in 2016 include:

  • Top Student Award for Myerscough College MSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry.
  • Best Post Graduate Forestry Student Award at Harper Adams.
  • Annual RFS/Lockhart Garratt award for excellence in the ABC Level 6 Diploma in Arboriculture; and
  • The Student Achievement Award for Environmental Science at the local Corby Business Academy.

And Finally…

We would like to offer our most sincere gratitude for the support you have given us over the past year and we look forward to the opportunities of 2017.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
