National Forest Company (Jan 2013)

A six-part report to inform design

Overview

Lockhart Garratt produced a six-part Woodland Management & Economy Report for the National Forest (NF), at a key time in its development, with planted woodland approaching 20 years old and requiring a cost-controlled approach to the first thinning. Part of that research included a report and map-based summary of the Midlands timber markets and product types to identify viable income streams. This research involved phone conversations with hauliers, timber merchants, sawmills and pulp mills including a number of Lockhart Garratt’s existing contacts as a means of confirming market trends, constraints and opportunities.  The NF used this report to inform the design of their Woodland Management Grant which has been so successful in recent years.
