As promised in our recent Newsletter we are planning a programme of professional webinars to bring to your PC over the coming weeks to provide some useful learning as well as a change from the physical isolation of home working. These free webinars will provide an update on a focused topic from the leading experts both within Lockhart Garratt team and the wider sector.
Over the last few weeks as we have sought to adapt to the new situation that we find ourselves in we have been exploring with our clients and contacts how we can continue to provide critical business support and explore where the current circumstances provide opportunities to prepare effectively for the post Covid-19 recovery.
Our first session will focus on Forestry Operations on 20th May 2020.
Details of future sessions will be promoted in due course.
Session 1: Forestry operations within the current climate
Despite the outbreak, machine operators continue to harvest and hauliers continue to move round wood from roadside to mill. Wood processors continue to make pallets to move food and medicines while others have supplied materials to build NHS Hospitals. Woodfuel suppliers continue to keep boilers running in thousands of buildings around the country. In many cases the current situation provides the opportunity to look at existing woodlands again and explore the opportunities in particular the provision of essential materials with restrictions on imports.
The majority of harvesting operations will deliver good financial returns. In addition the current closure of many associated activities, in particular in the leisure sector, provide the opportunities for operations to be undertaken in usually highly sensitive locations, taking advantage of the good ground conditions.
To explore these opportunities in more detail Justin Mumford will present our first session to explore:
- Timber markets and harvesting opportunities;
- Contract operations under Covid-19 restrictions and
- Operational consents and planning.
We are also delighted that Steve Scott from the Forestry Commission has volunteered to join this webinar to provide an update on how the FC is working in this current climate. Updates will include how they are undertaking site inspections, signing documentation, availability of staff and more.
Date: Wednesday 20 May 2020
All webinars are free of charge. Once your booking has been received we will email the link and password to the webinar.
Sessions will be set up in Zoom and would run for 45 – 60 min with 30 mins (max) of presentations and plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Zoom is an online videoconferencing app which is free to download (either from Phone, Laptop or Tablet). Please ensure that you have created an account to be able to access the link (a basic account is all that is needed and is free to subscribe to).
