This is an exciting opportunity to develop your ecological skills and provide tailored advice to clients on large scale projects and to support the Corby ecological team with specific species advice.

Senior Ecological Consultant

This senior role provides the opportunity to develop your experience of providing specialist ecological input on complex projects and supporting the Corby team with specialist advice on ecological surveys, strategies and relevant up to date ecological policy and guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to line manage other team members.

The role will encompass:

  • Undertaking ecological surveys including protected species surveys;
  • Direct management of large scale, complex or sensitive client projects;
  • Line management of ecology team members
  • Representing Lockhart Garratt at external events
  • Tendering and budgeting for new work and securing an appropriate level of new instructions and contract extensions;
  • Negotiating with statutory agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders on behalf of Clients; and
  • Assistance in wider company projects;
  • Providing senior support and specialist knowledge to ongoing ecological projects

The right candidate should have:

  • At least four-five years’ experience in the ecological industry;
  • Have a detailed knowledge of ecology, legislation, and survey techniques and keeps up to date with new technologies and best practice;
  • Proven experience of client liaison, support and business acumen
  • Proven experience of resource management, time keeping and budgeting
  • Proven experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • A degree and post-graduate degree in environmental science or ecology (or equivalent experience);
  • Associate or full membership of CIEEM (or meeting the criteria and willingness to apply);
  • Hold a protected species licence (preferably for bats);
  • Strong experience of EPS mitigation licences preferable
  • Ability and willingness to travel for survey work and to work away from home

Ecological Consultant

The ecological consultant role offers the opportunity to join the Corby team and support the ongoing schedule of projects and expand your professional experience by leading on multiple projects and supporting ongoing survey works, developing technical reports, conducting statistical analyses and engaging with clients.

The role will encompass:

  • Undertaking ecological surveys including protected species surveys;
  • Managing and supporting ecological projects
  • Supporting senior consultants and other departments in managing more complex projects
  • Developing fee proposals for new projects
  • Client liaison and support
  • Resource management, time keeping and budgeting
  • Conducting ecological surveys including protected species surveys
  • Undertaking Ecological Clerk of Works duties on projects

The right candidate should have:

  • At least two to three years’ experience in the ecological industry;
  • Have a good knowledge of ecology, legislation, and survey techniques
  • Experience of managing ecological projects
  • A degree in environmental science or ecology (or equivalent experience);
  • Associate or full membership of CIEEM (or meeting the criteria and willingness to apply);
  • Close to acquiring or holding a protected species licence is essential (preferably for bats);
  • Experience of EPS mitigation licences desirable
  • Ability and willingness to travel for survey work and to work away from home
