Who are you?  My name is Robin Truslove BSc(Hons) MSc MICFor CEnv, I am a Senior Environmental Consultant and head up the Minerals and Waste Restoration Team.  I joined Lockhart Garratt in 2002.  As a forestry practitioner I enjoy managing the blend of industry through timber production with the ability of trees to provide habitat and form a natural landscape.  Forming sound economic solutions for partners in the rural and minerals sectors is extremely rewarding.

What do you do? My areas of expertise include solution focused restoration, landscape, soils and environmental management advice for minerals and waste operators.  In addition I also work with the forestry and woodland management team in preparing woodland management plans and designing new private and community woodlands.

What project have your found particularly interesting to be involved with? The design and implementation of the Penny Wakefield Wood at Ellistown, Leicestershire.  During 2016/17 I delivered a 7ha community woodland creation for the logistics company Mountpark, in the National Forest.  Construction of 1.3million sq ft. of warehouse space required a strong green infrastructure to provide a number of functions between the site and the adjacent village.  The wood incorporated newly constructed voids as balancing lagoons to receive surface water from the development.  I refined the species mix to provide a native willow woodland mix in those voids whilst retaining oak and longer term species on the fringe of the wood for landscape screening.  I supervised surfaced path construction and planting of a community orchard.  The major success was the engagement with the local residents/Scouts and the National Forest Team as 3 public events to plant and launch the site.

What has been your favourite Lockhart Garratt moment to date? I would have to say white water rafting at Bala in Snowdonia as part of a Lockhart Garratt Charity Challenge, which included a climb of Snowdon the same weekend.  It was great to spend time with the team away from the office, get to know their families and just enjoy a fun weekend together.

What are your interests and hobbies? I enjoy road-cycling time trials as part of my keep fit strategy during the summer, along with countryside walks with my wife and 2 daughters.
